According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, giving by individuals makes up the vast majority of contributions received by nonprofit organizations. Giving USA 2015 estimates that individual donations totaled more than $258 billion in 2014. This accounts for 72% of all contributions received in 2014. Even so, many a donation may languish ungiven for want of a person to ask for it.
