Bring your blankets, chairs, and picnic baskets to watch the film Salt of the Earth, a 1954 film depicting the Empire Zinc strike. It was co-directed by Michael Wilson (Lawrence of Arabia), along with subversive Hollywood notables Herbert Biberman, Paul Jerrico, and Will Geer. Many of the strike participants also starred in the movie, including which came out only two years after the events it depicted. The Library of Congress has selected Salt of the Earth as one of 100 films to be preserved for posterity. We invite all those inclined to stay afterward and share reactions to the movie. Popcorn will be served.
