As part of the 2019 Territorial Charter Day festivities, the Silver City Public Library will host a presentation by the 49’ers Prospecting Club about the hobby of prospecting for valuable minerals. There will be a simple demonstration of gold panning. On January 22 Mayor Ken Ladner proclaimed February 16, 2019 to be this year’s Territorial Charter Day, to celebrate our town’s history. Silver City was incorporated on February 15, 1878 and is the only New Mexico community still operating under its pre-statehood charter. There will be a re-enactment, fun run, music, horse-drawn wagon rides, a talk and walking tour on historic mill sites, dance demos, special downtown shopping deals, and a ball at the Murray Hotel on Saturday, February 16.
