Come compose a haiku for a chance to win gift certificates and prizes! We've got paper, pencils and caffeinated inspiration in a cup to get the words flowing. Haikus will be on display throughout the week of the Southwest Festival of the Written Word, and customers will vote on best haiku. Contest winners will be announced via our social media. Some info for aspiring authors: A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with 17 syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. Often focusing on images from nature, haiku emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression. Haikus need not be coffee related, but it might help garner votes. This event is a prelude to the upcoming Southwest Festival of the Written Word*, which will have multiple happenings at Javalina Coffeehouse on the week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, 2019. So come and get your word ON! *This event is not endorsed by SWFWW, unless they decide to endorse our great idea.
