The following are the three sessions the Governor’s Commission on Disability will present on in Silver City September 30, 2019.
Service animals 9:00-10:00
Physical Access 10:00-11:00
Disability Awareness 11:00-12:00
Service Animals: Information will be provided on New Mexico State Service Animal Act and the Department of Justice federal regulation. Training will also include the rights and responsibilities of a service dog owner, business owners and public facilities managers.
Physical Accessibility: Training will include an overview of the latest requirements for accessible parking; exterior accessible path; accessible entry to buildings; interior accessible path and accessible toilet rooms. A slide presentation with diagrams and descriptions, as well as animation videos will be used to depict various accessibility scenarios.
Disability Awareness: An overview of disability culture, effective communication, and etiquette regarding the disability community. Discussion will also include the use of “People First” vs “Identity First” language and providing effective customer services for people with disabilities.
