Grant and Luna Counties Plan to Give Grandly on Saturday, May 14, 2016
When you go to town on Saturday May 14, you are in for a big surprise. At the Farmers? Market located at 7th and Bullard, along with your fresh fruits and vegetables, you will find thirty six 501(c ) 3 nonprofit agencies set up with tables and information about their organizations, what they are doing and how they are doing it. If you are in Deming that day, you will find ten nonprofit agencies doing the same thing at Leyendecker Plaza, corner of South Gold Ave. and East Spruce St. Talk to the folks who are engaged in the hard work on the ground. These organizations are the backbone of our communities. Donate to your favorite causes and find out more about outfits you didn?t even know existed.
The Grant County Community Foundation and the Southwest New Mexico Coalition of Nonprofits announces the third year of Give Local, Give Grandly! and encourages local residents to give where they live. This year the Foundation and the Coalition teamed up with Freeport McMoRan, the United Way of Southeast New Mexico, James Edd Hughes / Edward Jones, 1st American Bank (others will follow) to build a challenge grant pool. As each non-profit reaches $250 in donations, they will be matched dollar for dollar. This is unrestricted money. Each nonprofit is free to use the money any way they choose. Michael Zaragoza from the United Way developed the website for giving, along with a new mobile texting app.
100 % of the funds raised will benefit these great nonprofits of Southwest New Mexico. The Community Foundation, the Coalition and United Way do not take a percentage. United Way is picking up all credit card fees up to $2500. We are proud to highlight the important work of each organization to improve and enrich lives. This event is a reminder of the importance of giving back to the community and the great joy of generosity. Give Grandly connects donors with causes they believe in. In 2015, generous donors in Southwest New Mexico plus a few from out-of- state, including several former residents, dug deep into their pockets and grandly gave $ 93,707 in 24-hours to support local nonprofits.
This year, rumor has it that the Girls Scouts may be giving out cookies (for a small donation, of course). And Oh My!, treats from Burgers/Beer/Brownies, Little Toad and Millie?s Bake House will boost everyone?s giving energy. There will be live music and prizes. The icing on the cake again this year will be High Desert Humane Society, who will have adoptable dogs, maybe even kitties, on site. The lucky dogs will once again encourage all to:
