The meeting will feature a talk by noted botanist Richard Felger entitled “March to the North: the Last Tropical Orchid”. Orchids, oaks, agaves, yuccas, daturas, cacti and many other plants are hugely diverse towards the tropics but only a few march to the north. How do the poleward outliers achieve their northern march? How do they differ east and west of the North American continental divide? And how do they compare with their counterparts in the Old World and in the Southern Hemisphere? The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments following the program.
