World War I was fought from 1914 – 1918, but the United States did not enter until April 6, 1917. Several thousand New Mexicans fought and died during this time period. A draft of 24 million was done for men born between the years of 1873-1900; of those 2.8 million were drafted to serve. Various resources will be discussed for men in Grant County who served during this time, photos, service records and honoring of these valiant men. Henrietta M. Christmas is the current president of the New Mexico Genealogical Society and an independent genealogist and historian. Henrietta has volunteered her time as a research assistant for projects at the New Mexico History Museum, the Palace of the Governors, and the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution. She lectures on over 25 topics including colonial New Mexico history and Genealogy of Hispanic Families in New Mexico.
