Welcome back Silver City Favorites, Birds of Chicago. With stark, elemental imagery that feels like scripture, or a lost folk song recovered; the Birds draw heavily on the gospel tradition and the music feels like a new, secular gospel of sorts. For Birds of Chicago, every word counts. Every note counts. No gold-dusting, no filler. Music is the good news and Real Midnight, the band?s poignant new Joe Henry produced album, throbs with an urgency that feels quietly seismic. Starting off the Evening will be Silver City's own, Melanie Zipin & the Sugar Leafs. With 3 CD's of original music to her credit, singer songwriter, Melanie Zipin is originally from Philly. Her husband and guitarist, Jeff LeBlanc grew up in the funk scene in New Orleans. Bassist, Roger Metcalfe and drummer, Martyn Pierson hail from Great Britain. Their fortuitous convergence in Silver City created Melanie Zipin and the Sugar Leafs. Sponsors: Western New Mexico University Office of Cultural Affairs
