Join families of strike participants Frances Gonzales and Larry Flores, as well as author and researcher Raymond Caballero, to remember the famous events of the Silver City Local 890 zinc miners’ strike of 1950. This strike was a landmark action against racial discrimination and labor abuses, in which women played a defining role. The strike took place right here in Santa Rita against the backdrop of McCarthy’s red scare, the topic of Caballero’s new book about the strike which will be available for sale. These events were made into blacklisted movie Salt of the Earth.
