New Book about ROSS CALVIN of Silver City written by Ron Hamm
A new book ROSS CALVIN: INTERPRETER OF THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST tells the story of Dr. Ross Calvin. Dr. Calvin was the Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Silver City from 1927-1942. Dr. Calvin wrote a critically acclaimed commentary on the interface between weather and New Mexico called Sky Determines. Of it, local writer Tom Hester says, "Every thinking resident of the Southwest needs to read this!"
Author Ron Hamm will officially introduce the book with a reading and signing at the Silver City Museum annex at 11 a.m. on Saturday - April 9, according to museum book store manager Michele Casey.
Many people love the American Southwest without truly understanding it. Calvin did and we are the richer for it. Calvin was a pilgrim health-seeker, believing he had left the ''known world'' behind when he fled from New York for New Mexico. Once in New Mexico, he soon found that he could use his observational skills and intellect, honed through a PhD in English from Harvard, to fashion a picture that helped him and us comprehend those unique factors that make New Mexico what it is -- its history, people, culture, climate, and so much more. The book is available at local independent book stores, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
