Taste of Downtown Restaurant Tour

Can’t decide which restaurant to go out to this Friday evening? You don’t have to choose with MainStreet’s Taste of Downtown Silver City. The annual restaurant tour, to be held this year on Friday, September 2, will feature menu items from fifteen downtown locations. Following the success of last year’s event, the tour will again be held in conjunction with First Fridays Downtown from 6 pm to 9 pm.

“We had a great response last year when we moved the event to Friday evening,” said Nick Seibel, Silver City MainStreet manager. “People said it felt like ‘trick or treating’ for adults.”

The annual Taste of Downtown Walk-About Tour includes restaurants, coffee houses, and the occasional caterer. Participating locations prepare samples of their best for ticket holders to stop by and try. This year there’s a little bit of everything, from bacon-wrapped almond-stuffed dates with a balsamic reduction to tiger chai brownies.

“This is such a fun event to participate in,” Seibel said, “whether you discover a great new restaurant or try a new dish at an old favorite.”

Tickets are available now for $15 at Alotta Gelato, Curious Kumquat, the Murray Ryan Visitors’ Center, and the Mimbres Region Arts Council office. The tickets include a list of participating restaurants and menu items, and a map, so attendees can choose their own order and pace.

During the event, you can shake off some of those calories with the First Fridays Downtown street dance. This month Rhythm Mystic will perform from 6 pm to 9 pm in the Morning Star parking lot at 809 N. Bullard street.

A number of shops will be open late for First Fridays and many will offer additional activities. The Silver City Museum will hold a Poetry Open Mic, family activities, and a staged play reading. Shevek & Co. Restaurant will offer a Beers of Germany and Czechoslovakia tasting, and there will be live music at Yankie Creek Coffee House, JavaLina Coffee House, and Diane’s Parlor.

“I don’t know how you could pass up Taste of Downtown,” Seibel said, “but even if you don’t buy a ticket, you’ll still want to come downtown for all the great music, shopping, and entertainment options this First Friday.”

Taste of Downtown is sponsored in part by AmBank, Great Lakes Airlines, and Heckler’s Copies to Go. For more information, including the full tour menu and First Friday activities, visit SilverCityMainStreet.com or call 575-534-1700.
