
Throughout 2007, Gila Cliff Dwellings’ theme Celebrating a Century of Storytelling will guide the special events and programs at the monument, leading up to the actual 100th anniversary on November 16, 2007. Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Superintendent Steve Riley announced today the following July centennial celebration activities.
Centennial Exhibit at the Silver City Museum Daily through November 25th Discovering the Dwellings Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the museum and the 100th anniversary of the monument, find out who really “discovered” the dwellings, come face to face with the monument’s first Park Ranger, and add your own story to the community scrapbook. Museum located at 312 W. Broadway, hours Tuesday through Friday 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 – 4:00 pm.
September 13th – 16th Gila River FestivalCelebrate the free flowing, and sometimes flooding, Gila River with a variety of walks, talks, and other programs in Silver City, the Cliff-Gila Valley, and Gila Cliff Dwellings area. The full festival schedule is available on-line at www.gilaconservation.org. Head up to the river’s headwaters area for an evening program at the Gila Visitor Center Amphitheater on Saturday from 7-9pm. Camp at one of the free Forest Service campgrounds and be ready for all the festival fun on Sunday in the Gila Cliff Dwellings area. Call the Gila Visitor Center 505-536-9461 for more information.
